WANDO ABALONE Co., Ltd, the abalone distribution company chosen by Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, was established by the central government, the local government Wando-gun and 1,200 fishermen in Wando, where over 80% of abalone in South Korea is produced, as major stockholders. As fishermen directly produce abalone, it is of high quality, and as an abalone distribution and processing company, it produces fresh and high-quality abalone and processed products in high-tech facilities, and it was chosen as ‘the grand prize’ in the 2015 Fishery Product Brand Award sponsored by Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’, proving how excellent they are. As it has run the largest processing plant in South Korea, it has been evaluated as a new model for managing the farming and fishing village considering for increasing the income of fishermen, reviving the local economy, creating jobs, etc.
